The Michael Solomon Pond

at the Acropolis

The Man

Michael or “Mike with the Dogs” was a well known guy in his community. He lived in Astoria, in the Acropolis for over 10 years and he was a staple character up and down Ditmars Blvd.

He had a unique sense of humor and always had a joke and ready no matter what you were talking about. Michael was generous, curious, vocal, and super silly. He was always shadowed by his two dogs, Bean and Simbi whom he had rescued from a local shelter.

Michael was a sound guy and worked all over the country working on everything to a DSNY reel, to an interview with A-Rod. Even in his professional career, Michael was consistently Michael, naming his company “Production Sound Dot Net” and fabricating testimonial quotes for his website. Even now, he’s still making us laugh.

The Pond

The Pond at the Acropolis was nothing more than an eyesore. It had been neglected for over a decade and it wasn’t until Michael found himself bored, that he decided to take over this new project. Turning it from a lime green, algae ridden, dump into a serene oasis for the fish who endured neglect and the residents of the complex Michael called home.

Michael documented the ponds progress during the months he worked on it.

The Dogs

Mike was rarely seen without his dogs, Bean and Simbi. He rescued them both from Korean K9 Rescue, an local Astoria Organization. Bean and Simbi aren’t siblings but they are bonded through all the love that Michael gave them. Together, Michael was well known around the neighborhood as “Mike with the Dogs.”

Now, Bean and Simbi were fortunate enough to have an amazing life and have found a lovely new home in Astoria.
